Reading is fun!
It’s been 11 days since I’ve updated my blog. I don’t really know why I’ve been absent. I guess I’ve been reading a lot and doing school work too. (Mostly reading!) I finished the 2nd Temperance Brennan novel by Kathy Reichs and just started the 3rd one. Woo! Reading is fun. That is really all.
Week from hell, survived
For the first time in my life I am at this point where I can function on only a little sleep. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely sleep in when I can, but if I get 5-6hrs of sleep I don’t choose to sleep in instead of doing what I need to do.
Last week was supposed to be my week from hell. My Linux OS class was ending on Wednesday, I had a Macroeconomics Midterm the same day, and a bunch of homework. Thankfully I finished my Linux work on Monday evening. Tuesday night I decided, stupidly, to get this seafood/shellfish platter from this place I shouldn’t have. Basically, I really shouldn’t be eating seafood anywhere in Arizona. There are no oceans nearby. When I go for sushi I can taste that it’s not as fresh as it is in New Jersey. I am sure you can see where this is going.
All night I was having these horrible, weird dreams and I woke up every 40 minutes frantically like I was late for something. I woke up extremely sick at about 6-7am. I was puking and experiencing other scenarios you can use your imagination for. It was terrible. I don’t remember having food poisoning anytime recently, but it was the worst. My original plan was to wake up early that morning and study until my exam at 1:30pm. There was no possible way I was able to concentrate. Thankfully once I puked out all of my food, I was able to sleep sans weirdo dreams. I obviously didn’t wake up early and slept until almost 11am. I debated emailing my teacher and saying that I really couldn’t come in, but then I thought about how it was a midterm and while I had a mild fever and a bathroom problem, it wasn’t the worst situation ever. I took some imodium and just dealt.
I got through the exam with no idea how I did. I skipped my last Linux class and Visual Basic and Microsoft Access on Thursday. I just couched and laid in bed the whole time. By Thursday afternoon I was basically fine. It had passed!
I relaxed the rest of the weekend because I really didn’t have any homework to do and was eating normal by Friday. Friday night my friend from high school was driving through Phoenix because he is moving back east from Los Angeles (apparently Firefox doesn’t know what Los Angeles is, since it’s getting that red line underneath like it’s spelled incorrectly). He got here around 12:30am Saturday after much traffic and we went for a drink or two. It was awesome catching up. Sunday night my Linux grades were posted online and I got an A in the class, yay! Yesterday I got my Macroeconomics midterm back and I got a B with room to get extra points if I do some work on the questions I got wrong. I did that extra work tonight and am handing it in tomorrow.
Today was pretty exhausting. I got 6hrs of sleep last night, went to class this morning, and had another one early afternoon. Came home and basically did nothing besides eat meals and do homework. Is it Friday yet?
Sports
I really couldn’t care less about most professional sports. I find it fun to watch playoff games though. I totally don’t care about or even like the Yankees most of the time. Obviously, since I don’t care about sports in general I can’t hate them too much. Last night I was watching the end of the Yankees/Angels game with my boyfriend. He is a huge Yankees fan and let me tell you it was really exciting. I only started watching at the 10th inning. There is really nothing more exciting than a game that is super close and has to go into overtime or extra innings, especially when it’s a playoff game. After last night I am actually looking forward to watching the next game. My boyfriend was laughing at me because I was commenting how nice it was that the players would get some rest after their game that ended late. He was amused, and most likely annoyed, that I was concerned with how much sleep they were getting.
So even though I don’t care most of the time, these are my teams:
Hockey: NJ Devils
Baseball: NY Mets
Football: NY Jets
Basketball: NJ Nets
Also I totally root for the Arizona teams now that I live here, unless they are playing these teams. Also, I actually enjoy hockey a lot, but it’s hard for me to get into any sport on the TV. I like to be there!
Facebook Page
I created a Facebook page for this blog. You can find it here: Lackluster Musings Facebook Page. The page is also linked on the right column on my website.
Google Wave Invitation
When I woke up this morning I was please to see that I received an invitation to Google Wave. I signed up to get a Google Wave account a few months ago. I guess I got invited in the second group of people, behind the developers and their invitees. From what I am noticing, if you requested an invite yourself you get 8 invitations to give out to other people, but if you are someone who was invited, you don’t get any invitations to send out. At least not right away. I use the term invitation loosely because you’re really just asking Google to send an invitation to that email address. Anyway, I sent out my 8 invitations already.
When I activated my Google Wave, I only had one Wave contact, this guy from school who I share with on Google Reader. I don’t think I will know the full extent of what I can do with Google Wave until my friends are on there too. For now I am going to do some reading up on it and search the public waves for more information. I also created a public Wave for people in the Phoenix Metro area, although there is no stopping other people from joining in the conversation too.
For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, here is a link to some information explaining what Google Wave is: http://lifehacker.com/5376138/google-wave-101
School is kicking my ass
I have been super busy lately, especially this week. My Linux class ends on Wednesday. I finished and handed in all of the work, just have to show up on Wednesday. Last week my Macroeconomics teacher accidentally withdrew me from his class which totally freaked me out because the midterm is this week and the last thing I need to have wasted time and money. He put me back in again no problem, it was just a pain in the ass. I am so exhausted that I can’t really come up with a real thought of sentence. I am just going to watch my Monday night shows and then go to sleep. Tomorrow I need to go to school and then study study study for my midterm.
Wordpres Via Email
WordPress offers a new feature where you can update your blog via email. I think that is pretty neato. I have been having trouble with ecto lately. When I update sometimes it uploads blank. (OMG Dwight Shrute is wearing the Wolf t-shirt!) I’m obviously watching The Office now. Anyway, so this is a test.
Coffee
I have had a long love affair with coffee. For some reason this week when I was out of coffee, I didn’t have any time to go out and buy some more. Thankfully I went to CVS about 30 minutes ago and bought two cans of cheapo coffee. It was buy 1 get 1 free. (My friend Sharon will be happy because I will stop complaining to her about my lack of coffee.) CVS is fantastic. I have always been the type of person who went to the independent pharmacies because I enjoy supporting local businesses and having my pharmacist knowing who I am. I don’t think I’ve seen an independent pharmacy in Tempe, since I moved here, so I go to the CVS across the street. I don’t need a pharmacy really, but go there for OTC drugs and toiletries. CVS in Arizona sells beer, wine, and liquor. So the fact that there is one across the street is pretty convenient even though it’s not the cheapest for these items. Back to the coffee: I had espresso the other day from Starbucks and I also had a mocha frappe at school yesterday, but being able to relax and enjoy my coffee at home is my favorite. I love feeling the caffeine go through my veins. (Psycho right?) I start to get really sleepy in the afternoon on days when I don’t have coffee. It really sucks! So I am happy to have coffee again while I sit and watch The Situation Room and motivate myself to do some school work. It is completely lovely and I have no intention on ending my caffeine addiction anytime soon.
Lost Addiction
So I haven’t written here in about 8 days. I could say I have spent every waking moment of my life doing school work, but that would be a lie. Last weekend to test out how good our faster Internet connection was, my boyfriend and I decided to try something on Netflix Instant play. Usually we get 1-3 bars of the quality of the picture when we watch on the xbox 360. Now we get 4 bars/HD quality picture when streaming. Anyway, to see how it would look instead of watching a movie, my boyfriend chose the first episode of Lost season 1. Neither of us have ever seen this show before. For me it has mostly been because I know I will become addicted from everything my friends have told me and who has time for that? So next thing I know we had watched 5 episodes of Lost in that first night. Somewhere along the way, my boyfriend made the decision that he wasn’t going to succumb to Lost addiction, and stopped watching with me, only to watch every so often and annoyingly ask me to explain what is going on. I would ask him to stop doing this, but he never will. It’s a character trait of his. So now, it’s about a week later and I am almost done with season 2.
March4Healthcare
Tomorrow, I want to go to the March4Healthcare event in Phoenix. I believe it starts around 11am or 12noon around Jefferson St and Central. The event is in honor of Ted Kennedy. Here is some information about it.
So hopefully I get all the work I need to done today so that I can go. We’ll see what happens.
