When I woke up this morning I was please to see that I received an invitation to Google Wave. I signed up to get a Google Wave account a few months ago. I guess I got invited in the second group of people, behind the developers and their invitees. From what I am noticing, if you requested an invite yourself you get 8 invitations to give out to other people, but if you are someone who was invited, you don’t get any invitations to send out. At least not right away. I use the term invitation loosely because you’re really just asking Google to send an invitation to that email address. Anyway, I sent out my 8 invitations already.

When I activated my Google Wave, I only had one Wave contact, this guy from school who I share with on Google Reader. I don’t think I will know the full extent of what I can do with Google Wave until my friends are on there too. For now I am going to do some reading up on it and search the public waves for more information. I also created a public Wave for people in the Phoenix Metro area, although there is no stopping other people from joining in the conversation too.

For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, here is a link to some information explaining what Google Wave is: http://lifehacker.com/5376138/google-wave-101

I have been super busy lately, especially this week. My Linux class ends on Wednesday. I finished and handed in all of the work, just have to show up on Wednesday. Last week my Macroeconomics teacher accidentally withdrew me from his class which totally freaked me out because the midterm is this week and the last thing I need to have wasted time and money. He put me back in again no problem, it was just a pain in the ass. I am so exhausted that I can’t really come up with a real thought of sentence. I am just going to watch my Monday night shows and then go to sleep. Tomorrow I need to go to school and then study study study for my midterm.

WordPress offers a new feature where you can update your blog via email. I think that is pretty neato. I have been having trouble with ecto lately. When I update sometimes it uploads blank. (OMG Dwight Shrute is wearing the Wolf t-shirt!) I’m obviously watching The Office now. Anyway, so this is a test.

I have had a long love affair with coffee. For some reason this week when I was out of coffee, I didn’t have any time to go out and buy some more. Thankfully I went to CVS about 30 minutes ago and bought two cans of cheapo coffee. It was buy 1 get 1 free. (My friend Sharon will be happy because I will stop complaining to her about my lack of coffee.) CVS is fantastic. I have always been the type of person who went to the independent pharmacies because I enjoy supporting local businesses and having my pharmacist knowing who I am. I don’t think I’ve seen an independent pharmacy in Tempe, since I moved here, so I go to the CVS across the street. I don’t need a pharmacy really, but go there for OTC drugs and toiletries. CVS in Arizona sells beer, wine, and liquor. So the fact that there is one across the street is pretty convenient even though it’s not the cheapest for these items. Back to the coffee: I had espresso the other day from Starbucks and I also had a mocha frappe at school yesterday, but being able to relax and enjoy my coffee at home is my favorite. I love feeling the caffeine go through my veins. (Psycho right?) I start to get really sleepy in the afternoon on days when I don’t have coffee. It really sucks! So I am happy to have coffee again while I sit and watch The Situation Room and motivate myself to do some school work. It is completely lovely and I have no intention on ending my caffeine addiction anytime soon.

So I haven’t written here in about 8 days. I could say I have spent every waking moment of my life doing school work, but that would be a lie. Last weekend to test out how good our faster Internet connection was, my boyfriend and I decided to try something on Netflix Instant play. Usually we get 1-3 bars of the quality of the picture when we watch on the xbox 360. Now we get 4 bars/HD quality picture when streaming. Anyway, to see how it would look instead of watching a movie, my boyfriend chose the first episode of Lost season 1. Neither of us have ever seen this show before. For me it has mostly been because I know I will become addicted from everything my friends have told me and who has time for that? So next thing I know we had watched 5 episodes of Lost in that first night. Somewhere along the way, my boyfriend made the decision that he wasn’t going to succumb to Lost addiction, and stopped watching with me, only to watch every so often and annoyingly ask me to explain what is going on. I would ask him to stop doing this, but he never will. It’s a character trait of his. So now, it’s about a week later and I am almost done with season 2.

Tomorrow, I want to go to the March4Healthcare event in Phoenix. I believe it starts around 11am or 12noon around Jefferson St and Central. The event is in honor of Ted Kennedy. Here is some information about it.

So hopefully I get all the work I need to done today so that I can go. We’ll see what happens.

I just watched this documentary called This Film Is Not Yet Rated which was made in 2006. The whole premise was to look into the MPAA rating system and who is behind it. They did some interesting comparisons of different movies and what their ratings are based on if the topic was gay or straight, whether the movie had more violence or sex, and if the movie was from a major film studio or an independent film studio

Movies with sex were more likely to get NC-17 than movies with violence, which often got PG-13 or R ratings. Movies with gay sex were more likely to get NC-17 while straight sex would get R ratings. On top of that movies from major studios were told exactly what scenes they needed to remove from their movies to get an R rating as opposed to NC-17, while movies from independent studios were told it was the whole theme of their movie was the “problem.” There would be no way for someone who made an independent film to know which scenes needed to be taken out to get a lower rating, if they were interested in doing that

On top of all of this, the people that are on the MPAA ratings board are executives from some major studios and theatre companies like Loews and Sony. Plus, there are a couple of representatives from clergy. I am pretty sure there was a Catholic representative and someone from another sect of Christianity on the ratings board. The funny part is that the MPAA ratings board wants us to think that they are just concerned parents.

I definitely suggest you check the movie out. It was extremely interesting and informative. I got it from Netflix.

I had my Microsoft Access class today for the first time. It seems like it will be a good class. I am not the biggest fan of Access, but I really do need to know it. The instructor was pretty straight with us and said he really just wants us to learn Access and he doesn’t plan on being tricky and ask us weird questions on exams, etc. So I think it will be okay.

I am starting to feel less overwhelmed about this semester, even though I know it wont be easy!

The first week of the semester has come and gone. For those that are new to my blog, or don’t remember, I go to Mesa Community College in Mesa, AZ. I keep saying it’s the first week of school and my boyfriend keeps pointing out that I go to school year round so it’s not really the first week of school, just the first week of the semester. How annoying is that? Anyway, I’ve had four classes so far. For some reason my Microsoft Access class doesn’t start until next week.

Macroeconomics seems like it’s going to be pretty hard, but I am finding it interesting. My Object-Oriented Programming class is online and while I’m not too excited about it, it doesn’t seem like it will be too complicated, just time consuming. It’s almost like I am modeling in this program Alice. It’s to give us the idea of creating objects and making events happen, which is important in object-oriented programming. I am most excited about my Visual Basic class. I don’t really know what I can say about that except that I want to be a programmer so it’s exciting for me. My Linux OS class seems like it’s going to be complicated at first, but then I will get the hang of it. We are learning the shell commands for the OS before we even install it so that we know the behind the scenes type of stuff. I guess I will write about Microsoft Access after this upcoming week. I am not really looking forward to that class.

I don’t know anyone in my classes, which isn’t surprising. Most of the people in my classes last semester were not CIS majors. I need to go down to advisement sometime in the next couple weeks and declare my major and figure out which classes have transferred from previous schools I’ve attended. I will be happy to know what classes I still need to take and which I don’t have to worry about.

I deleted my previous entry that says otherwise. I just wanted to say that my friend wrote me back and I am happy I sent her an email.
